First Sergeant Frederick C. Haggard

Fred Haggard alias Angus Flanagan

I was delivered in this world on the Isle of Eire one cold blustery November morn. I was a share croppers son under the iron rule of an English oppressor. Me family toiled long and hard over the years but me father being a shrewd man managed to save a small nest egg. I should explain at this point that me brother and me really love to fight a lot, and if we had no one else to fight with we would fight with each other, that being said I will continue on. One day in 1855 me brother was having a pint in the local pub when the son of the land baron insulted me father. Me brother being a proud young man and who loved to raise Hell, confronted the %#&@^#* and the fight broke out which me brother took the buggers sword away from him and ran it through him. After which me brother was charged with murder and became a fugitive. Me father decided to chance it took all of his life savings and disguised me brother as an old woman and bought passage on a steamer to America. Me whole family was going to New York. Out at sea a squal blew up and our ship was blown off course and ended up somehow in Virginia. Me family decided to go west. Me father heard there was gold just laying around for the taking in a place called California, so he decided that we would take the money left and go west young man go west.  We made it as for west as Arkansas, me father said that this is where we are going to settle. The freedom was quite remarkable compared to Eire, and I soon found meself stirring up a friendship with a big Swede named Tiny Yeamen. I would never figure out the name Tiny. Anyway Tiny offered me a job at the Lynch Tree Saloon which he owned and I became a prosperous citizen and bought 25% of the Lynch Tree for meself. In the mean time me brother went off to Illinois and became a man of commerce himself. We loved this country. And then the man named Lincoln was elected president and the northern tier of the country tried to infringe there will on the South. War soon broke out and Tiny and I enlisted in the ranks of me adopted state. I contacted me father and told him I had enlisted for the Confederate cause, me father sat down and wept and said me brother had enlisted too, on the side of the north. Let the fight begin
