Pvt. Zias Huckabay

i was born in northwest GA. in the spring 1818. may to be the month. my father was a soldier in the revolutionary war and the war of 1812. my mother was a daughter of a minister. in 1846 we uprooted our family farm to move to Arkansas. i wanted to join the army to go to Mexico, but father told me he needed me at the farm cause he was getting on in years. after marring and a few kids myself settled on my family's farm until that April morning in 1861. after war was declared i followed what i believed in states rights and joined the Arkansas 16th regiment of foot, (infantry) cause i had no horse to join the cavalry. they told me my ox was to slow to be in the cavalry. i joined for 3 years, but heck everyones says it will be over in 3 months time anyway.
